Teacher Page My classroom is an advanced 7th grade choir. We have been singing a song about honoring veterans. This WebQuest is an extension activity for my students. The choir room is very different from other classes in that our learning not only involves singing, but also math is required for rhythm. Language arts are also taught since all of our songs have text. Some of the best poetry in the world has been set to music. We learn about presenting to our audience, tone, imagery, and creating a picture with our music. We write about what the text means in our lives and what was the lyricist's intent was for setting the mood of the song. We discuss how the composer uses the notes of the song to reflect the mood of the text. Students have already had a class in Tech Tools while in 6th grade. They have had experience with Movie Maker, Prezi, PowerPoint, etc. The goal of the WebQuest is to extend their thinking and to creatively use the tech tools to express honor to someone. If you need to teach technology skills, more planning will be required to teach those skills. I will informally preassess for this WebQuest by talking about the song we are singing and discuss what it means to give honor to someone. The students will talk mostly about veterans because our song honors veterans. My question before I break them into groups will be "Are veterans the only people worthy of honor? Grouping students will usually be 1 English proficient student and 2 English language learners. This is the ratio that I have in my class. Scaffolding for this class is usually related to language, not learning issues since this is an advanced class. There will be 3 levels of reading passages and I will assign each student to which level I want them to use. See below for a link to my popplet where I have included examples of student definitions.
